It's almost time to take out and hang the Christmas ornaments. Here is my Beatles ornament.
Now on the subject of clothes, I like the classic styling of this New Look pattern from 2006. Description: Misses' lined princess-seamed jacket, pants, skirt, bag. I sewed the lined jacket. I sewed view "A", the jacket with the lower flounce.
I was able to follow the directions and the accompanying diagrams. If you have sewn simple lined jackets, then you will fare fine.
It's a nice easy-to-wear jacket with style options from view A and/or B that can add that extra polish and flair to any outfit. The only thing to be on the lookout for, which I discovered is that the sleeves run longer than usual.
This is my "third" garment made from "The Beatles" licensed cotton. .
I made a tube of fabric with The Beatles' "faces" fabric and inserted a plastic headband into it to complete the theme. My first "The Beatles" top made from a 1970's Simplicity pattern, from 2 years ago
I wore the entire outfit on Halloween at work. Here I am in my classroom.
Modifications/Alterations:
*Although I like the fit and look of princess seams, I omitted them due to preserve the continuity of the fabric's print. Before placing the pattern pieces on the fabric for cutting, I merged (pinned) the side front to the front and the side back to the back to form "larger" pattern pieces.
*Lined the flounce in the same fabric before attaching to the lower edge of the jacket.
* Hand-stitched the lower edge of the lining to the seam joining the lower edge of the jacket to the lower flounce, instead of machine-stitching.
"Owl" Hoooooo Need is Love
Wearing a pair of "multi-colored" peace earrings from Kohl's that I have had for awhile, and my new "owl" necklace from CharlotteRusse.com I purchased a silver one for my daughter.
Recommendations
Sometime soon I plan to sew the jacket with the princess seams. If you are looking for a simple and stylish topper, then this New Look jacket could be what you are looking for. This 2006 pattern is still available on the Simplicity website. Basic coordinates (slacks, skirt, a lightweight lined jacket) are essential for a versatile wardrobe and do not go out of style.
Here Comes Le Soleil
May 2011, still on the subject of the music of The Beatles:
Here is my "little" sister (she lives not too far from Las Vegas), my daughter Heather and myself at La Mirage in Las Vegas, ready to watch the "Love" show by Cirque du Soleil, featuring the music of the Beatles. I should not fear somebody working for the "Love" show coming after me for copyright infringement, since I paid for this photo. Before the show began, one of the ushers decked out in Carnaby 60's style attire ran down the steps and "chastised" my sister for taking a picture because she was certain she saw the flash coming from our row. Of course the usher made a mistake which my sister pointed out. The usher accused my sister of lying and reminded her not to have her camera out again. Then moments later the usher apologized because she singled out the wrong person who snapped a photo. It was the couple in front of us who snapped a quick photo of themselves.
